‘Jest Stay’
I still cherish every visit to my daughter, the grand daughters. My favorite time during every visit was hearing Anna Esther ask me to read a bedtime story to her. That usually meant I read several bedtime story books. Then we said our prayers and kisses and hugs. I tucked her in then turned to walk out the door when she said, “Nana, could jest you stay long enough for me to tell you how much I love you?”
O my soul, what cherished words, I’ve held them in my heart for years now.
I walked back in to her bedside, not sure what to say, so I bent down to kiss her when she pulled my face close, and she whispered, “Nana, I could never get done telling you how much I love you.”
The tears came. My heart burst. What a gift!
This sounded to me like the words that Jesus spoke over his people Israel.
“ The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying
I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness. .” Jeremiah 31:3
In ”Mark 6:31 Jesus taught his disciples to rest.
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have chances to eat, he said to them, “ Come away with me to a quiet place. I know you have had days like that, and like Jesus, you need a quiet place.
Has He ever asked you to stay just long enough to tell you how much He loves you? Let me encourage you to make a place where you can hear His whisper of love.
