So you’re mad at God too?

So many of you have written to say the most welcome words a person will ever hear, and that’s this: ME TOO! Thank you for reminding me that I am not the only person in the world who ever doubts and feels angry or isn’t sure. Thank you for telling me your stories and sharing the things that have made trusting God hard for you. As a follow up to that post, I thought I’d share some resources that Read more […]

I’ve been mad at God for a long time

I’ve been mad at God for a long time. I’m not even sure when it started, but it’s been at least 10 years. I loved Jesus with all my heart until I was in middle school, and then some stuff happened, and I wasn’t so sure. In high school I got involved in a youth group from another denomination and felt God’s presence again for a brief time. I went off to college, started working and married, still sure Read more […]

Good, Good Father

I recently heard a song called Good, Good Father  by Housefires.  If you’re not familiar with it, here’s a link: Oh, I’ve heard a thousand stories Of what they think You’re like. But I’ve heard the tender whisper Of love in the dead of night. And You tell me that You’re pleased And that I’m never alone. You’re a good, good Father. It’s who You are, it’s who You Read more […]

Praying For Charleston

I don’t have any words that are remotely adequate. I’m so grieved for every part of what happened Wednesday night. I can’t even imagine the depth of grief that the families of the victims are experiencing. I feel so sad for my state of South Carolina and for beautiful, historic Charleston. I am thankful the suspect is in custody, but am  bewildered by what could have happened in his young life Read more […]

When I Said I Do

In the last two weeks I’ve had the privilege of attending two weddings of two precious family friend brides. In fact, since October of 2012, five of our community’s kids have married. We are definitely in that stage of life where our kids and our kids’ friends are starting new married lives together. This weekend’s beautiful wedding got me thinking about wedding vows and how much they actually Read more […]

What a Difference a Year Makes

This time last year, we were four days out from Anna and Brad’s wedding, which took place here at the house. It was beautiful and magical and so much fun to host family and friends, but let’s be real. It was a lot of work. Also, the two weekends prior to Anna’s wedding, two other close family friends had weddings, and three weeks prior we celebrated Anna and Caroline’s graduations from Samford. It Read more […]

I don’t want to write about Josh Duggar

I’ve never been a fan of reality TV. I don’t watch the Kardashians, or the Bachelor, or Duck Dynasty.  I did watch Honey Boo Boo a few times, but it was like watching a bad car wreck and not being able to take my eyes off of it and wanting to close my eyes all at the same time. My life has enough drama on its own, and I just don’t need to watch other people’s drama in my free time. Then this happened. http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/21/us/josh-duggar-child-molestation-allegations/ And Read more […]

I stopped writing because I got sick

Really, this is what happened. I was on a roll and felt like I’d written some decent things. Everyone tells you writing is hard work, and this is true, but you have to write for it be hard. It’s not that hard if you don’t do it, which is what I have not been doing for the last almost two weeks.  Plus I started asking myself a bunch of questions like, “who even reads this?” and “what if it’s nobody?” Read more […]

Happy Mother’s Day To Me

On August 5, 1989 I became a mother to Anna Esther Reid.  Two weeks early, she arrived the day after I stopped working, knowing that I’d have at least two weeks to nest before our baby came. We didn’t know if our baby was a boy or girl until the moment she was delivered. Anna completely turned my world upside down. I’d alway wanted children, and had suffered two miscarriages prior to her birth. Read more […]

I’m Peopled Out

Everybody thinks I’m an Extrovert because I’m pretty loud and energetic and sort of funny. I talk a lot and have opinions about everything. You don’t even have to ask me and I’ll give mine to you. Actually my Myers Briggs score is pretty evenly split Introvert/Extrovert, which is weird. I tell people that I think I wear the mask of an Extrovert as a coping mechanism.  I hate large cocktail type Read more […]
